As a freelance stylist, I became a little peeved the other day when reading through the style pages of the newspaper admiring the looks the house stylist had put together as New Years Eve inspiration.
The article was meant to inspire the average working woman to look a little harder to find the bargains so as not to blow a whole week's pay on one NYE dress. When the article ended with the stylist proudly claiming, "and it was all under $350!" I got super annoyed.
Sometimes, $350 is STILL too much for one outfit, for one night! And sometimes, we simply can't justify it, no matter how much we might want to. And I KNOW that I could have found an outfit just as nice for under $150! I do it all the time, for myself and my clients. It annoys me down to every last fibre of my being when these editorial stylists claim they can teach you to shop on a budget when it isn't actually budget shopping at all! GRRR
I like a bit of luxury myself sometimes and I'm definately not bagging it (note my Tony Bianco heels and Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses) but I will share that the clothes I am wearings touched the grand total of $45.
THAT is how you style on a budget my friend. Never under-estimate the power of a well positioned necklace and leg lifting heel to bring to life an otherwise plain outfit :)
If you would like more information on my personal styling services, don't hesitate to drop me a line, I work around majority of the Adelaide area.

really cute jumper and i am so in love with those heels! and i know what you mean, i think that the average woman can't afford to splurge like that and it would be nicer if the magazines were either more realistic, or made it clear that the outfit they put together is for the woman who has a bit of money to spend.
